Reaching home with broadband
Previously, it was only possible to reach the home with broadband through phone wires (ADSL) or via cable TV distribution. Phone wires has severe limitations since they are unshielded and thus not protected from external noise. Cable TV currently offers broadband, but the capacity is limited since the coaxial cable is also used as backbone. DSL and broadband over cable TV offers asymmetric communication, i.e. fast communication to subscriber but slow from the subscriber. To achieve broadband communication at 100 Mbps and faster, you need fiber-to-building. The cost to reach each apartment with a fast broadband will easily be just as costly as to obtain the fiber to the house. Mobile or wireless communications will do most good as a temporary connection since they have limited speed, even with the improvements during recent years.
